Non-surgical treatment for lower back pain, slipped disc and sciatica, with manual therapy, traction and a home exercise plan.
Back pain is one of the most common reasons patients visit our centre โ and one of the most disruptive, affecting the ability to sit, stand, sleep or work comfortably. Sciatica, a related but distinct condition, adds nerve pain travelling down the leg. Both respond well to correctly diagnosed, structured physiotherapy.
The lower back (lumbar spine) is made up of five vertebrae, cushioned by discs that absorb shock and allow movement. The sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body, runs from the lower back through the buttock and down each leg. When a disc bulges or slips and presses on this nerve, it causes the sharp, radiating pain known as sciatica.
Most patients notice meaningful relief within the first few sittings.
Rest in a comfortable position, avoid heavy lifting, and gentle heat application can ease muscle spasm. Persistent or radiating pain should be assessed by a physiotherapist rather than self-managed long-term.
Back pain is localised to the lower back. Sciatica is nerve pain that radiates from the lower back down through the buttock and leg, usually caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve, often from a slipped disc.
Most slipped disc cases improve with physiotherapy, posture correction and targeted exercises, without surgery. Surgery is generally considered only when conservative treatment fails or there are specific warning signs.
This varies by severity, but many patients notice meaningful relief within the first few sessions, with a full course typically structured over several weeks alongside home exercises.
The earlier sciatica is treated, the faster and more complete the recovery tends to be.
